US Great Schools is a free, independent guide to state and public schools in the United States and the United Kingdom. Our goal is simple: to help parents compare schools fairly, find the best school in their area, and understand why one school outranks another — without paywalls, sponsored placements, or guesswork.
We are not a government agency and we are not a school directory that sells “premium” listings. Every rating you see is computed from official open data published by the education authorities themselves:
- United Kingdom — Department for Education (Get Information About Schools / Ofsted inspection grades, GCSE and A-level attainment).
- United States — National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) Common Core of Data, together with state assessment results.
Ratings are shown on a 0–10 scale with a familiar A–F letter grade, so you can compare schools side-by-side and shortlist the ones that fit your family. Our “schools near me” and “best schools in {city}” pages are built from the same transparent data, never from paid submissions.
